Copy, Credit and a Meal
Ok, there's the world of barter. I get that. It works and has worked for countless generations. There's the feeling of community, of investing time into a social relationship that will have mutual, long-term benefits.
Then there folks that just want your efforts for free. That's what this is about. Well-meaning posts perhaps, and certainly, we've all tried to do great things without much of a budget. And if you are student filmmaker or producer, and if you are hoping to work with other student actors or low-in-the-learning-curve voice talent, that's fine too.
But, it's the expectation of extremely quality talent without paying for it, or the idea that the 5 or 10 years it took to be able to consistently deliver a usable take in one or two tries somehow translates into something that "will only take 10 minutes of your time" (of course, since we all have teleporters now, there's no actual commuting which takes place...) and therefore worthy of $20. Those things alternately get my goat and make me headsmack and laugh.
These are the egregious ones. Enjoy!
